If you have a Linksys or Cisco Valet router you may be interested in enabling the QOS (Quality of Service) feature on the router. Doing this will enable your Xbox traffic to take outgoing priority over anything else (and any other users) on the network. This could help you if you are having problems with other users on your network using up lots of bandwidth on downloads, video streaming etc etc.

The example guide below is for a Linksys E1000 but many of the Linksys range of routers have very similar (if not exact) menus including the Cisco Valet so these instructions should also work for other Linksys/Cisco routers.

 The screenshot below (click for a full screen version) shows the QoS configuration area of the router Linksys E1000 used for reference.

• Find out the mac address of your Xbox 360 click here for more info and make a note of it 
• Access your router menu by entering 192.168.1.1 into your browser (may differ for your Links/Cisco) - Username should be left blank, password is admin (unless you have changed these details
• Click on Applications & Gaming/QOS
• Enable Internet Access Priority
• Change the category to MAC Address, as shown in the black outline on the screenshot above
• In the Enter a Name field enter a name for this QoS rule for example Xbox or XboxLive
• Enter the mac address of your Xbox which you noted down during the first step above, as shown in the green outline on the screenshot above
• Choose your priority for the traffic, try it at medium as shown in the red outline on the screenshot above, or if that does not make enough difference set it to high
• Click the Add button
• If you have more Xboxes you can add them now by repeating the steps above
• Click on Save Settings
• Wait  30 seconds
• Power off the router and back on again and your Xbox should now have priority over other traffic on your network
