If you have the Dlink DIR-655 as reviewed hereon this site you may be interested in enabling the QOS (Quality of Service) feature on the router. Doing this will enable your Xbox traffic to take outgoing priority over anything else (and any other users) on the network.
This could help you if you are having problems with other users on your network using up lots of bandwidth on downloads, video streaming etc etc.
The screenshot below (click for a full screen version) shows the QoS configuration you need to apply to your router.
Part 1 (IP Address Reservation)
The first thing you need to do to make QoS work is to ensure your Xbox always gets the same ip address because at the moment it could get a different ip address each time it starts up which is no good for QoS and it can't hit a moving target.
To do this you need to find out and note down the MAC Address of your Xbox, do this by looking here
Also take a note of your Xbox's current ip address (Settings/System/Network Settings/Wired or Wireless/Configure Network) so you can ensure what your doing next has worked
Access the router menu (192.168.0.1) login as admin and leave the password blank (unless you have changed it)
- Scroll down to the section that reads Add DHCP Reservation, make sure that setting is ticked.
- Enter the Computer name Xbox 360 (or whatever you want to call your Xbox)
Enter the ip address 192.168.0.150 - Enter the mac address of your Xbox (its the 12 characters you got from your XBox and needs to be entered in this format 00:19:D2:53:2C:A3)
- Click Save
Now reboot your Xbox and check your IP address again (My Xbox/System Settings/Network Settings/Wired or Wireless/Configure Network) it should now read 192.168.0.150
Part 2 (Setting the Quality of Service)
Access the router menu (192.168.0.1) login as admin and leave the password blank (unless you have changed it)
- Select Advanced/QOS Engine and then setup that page as per the screenshot below. (Click to make the picture full screen)
- Choose Save settings
For good measure reboot the router. Wait 1min and then reboot the Xbox and you should be good to go with the Xbox getting priority 1 and everyone else gets "best effort"
