Don't get me wrong the Belkin F5D9231 is on the certified list so it should work fine, but I'd recommend the Dlink DIR655 over it

Found the D-Link DIR-655 Wireless N Gigabit Router it retails at just under £100, bit expensive for me, trying to buy one on ebay but not many around.
What would be your second choice of router that will allow multiple xboxes to xboxlive but not quite so
expensive.
Incidently the D-Link DIR-655 Wireless N Gigabit Router has 10/100/1000 Will I immediately benefit from the 1000 element ( Or maybe this helps future proof my investment !!!) or do i need to upgrade my n=modem first and or make changes to my virgin broadband connection / service

Thanks again

The 4100 is a good router but very old, I'm not even sure if you can even get the live certified firmware any more , which you would need

Its hard to personally recommend others as I've not used them.. the DIR-825 is also great but probably about the same price.

http://support.xbox.com/support/en/us/n ... pment.aspx

Anything on the above link should work if you ensure you get the correct firmware for it that is listed.

The Netgear WGR614 v8 will work with the correct firmware and should be cheaper but I think they are on version 9 now so you might not be able to pick up an version 8 new

You won't see an improvement for the Xbox at 1000 no , but if you are doing big file transfers/streaming etc on your PC's (wired) and they have 1Gb nic cards yes you will

Decided to go with the D-Link DIR-655

Postby calibra » Wed Mar 10, 2010 3:19 pm

Decided to go with the D-Link DIR-655, primarily on your recommendation.
I gave up with ebay, the prices achieved were too close to the new price. I managed to buy one for £85 incl postage from pixmania ( Due in <10 days........to get cheaper postage) You said if I increase my NIC`s to 1Gbit then this will speed up LAN file transfers etc. If I upgrade my Modem to 1Gbit will I then see further advantages in my internet speed/capacity.

Many thanks

PS Will I need to configure the 655 before connecting up my 3 xboxes, I plan to use the 4th router port for a switch for my 3 pc`s and laptop

You won' t be able to upgrade your modem to 1Gb they don't do them, Virgin don't offer over 100Mb yet anyway.

Nope.. don't configure it, just plug it and you should be good to go :)

So the only current benefit for the 1gbit router is internal LAN gaming and transfer.....and I assume I need 1Gbit NIC cards to get ANY advantage.

Will let you know how it all works ( Not IF !!! ) when it arrives

Thanks again
